Shifter collaborated with the Goethe-Institut Portugal in promoting and moderating a debate on the role of artificial intelligence in translation, accompanied by two interviews.

In October 2021, Shifter and the renowned Goethe-Institut Portugal collaborated to promote a debate on the role of artificial intelligence in the present and future of translation, which was attended by German philosopher and translator Hannes Bajohr and the Portuguese teacher Ana Margarida Abrantes (Portuguese Catholic University). Moderation was in charge of João Gabriel Ribeiro, director of Shifter.

Titled “Art or Algorithm: Artificial Intelligence and Translation”, the conversation explored the impact, challenges and potential of artificial intelligence techniques in the world of words and translation.

As part of this conversation, Shifter published an extensive and interesting interview with Hannes Bajohr; in parallel, in the LETTER, the Portal of Contemporary Literature in German Language that is maintained by Goethe, was published an interview conducted by Shifter with professor Ana Margarida Abrantes.
