How to Cycle Lisbon

We designed a brochure for Lisbon City Council on the panorama of cycling mobility in the city.

Shifter X, with over eight years of experience in creating editorial content with Shifter and Lisboa Para Pessoas, worked with the Lisbon City Council (CML) and the Instituto Superior Técnico to create an information brochure on the use of bicycles in the city of Lisbon, its growth over the last four years and the various initiatives being developed throughout the city, such as the GIRA shared system, the municipal programme to support the acquisition of bicycles, the Bicycle Trains and the cycle workshops.

The brochure, which can be downloaded from the CML website and which was distributed free of charge at the Velo-city 2021 international conference, provides an overview of Lisbon's cycling potential, taking as a starting point the annual counts carried out by the Instituto Superior Técnico on bicycle use in the city, as well as information available on the Lisboa Aberta platform, and data from EMEL and the Municipal Mobility Directorate.

Entitled “Como Pedala Lisboa”, the document addresses the growth in bicycle use in the city of Lisbon between 2017 and 2020, the evolution of the cycle network and the supply of parking for two-wheelers, shared systems such as GIRA, the municipality’s program to support the acquisition of bicycles, the special case of electric and cargo bicycles, cycle workshops, and the Bicycle Trains program, among other topics. The structure and texts of the brochure were developed by Shifter X, a studio specializing in content; the illustrations and final layout were handled by the municipality’s Brand and Communication Department.
